In Switzerland, higher vocational education refers to the non-university tertiary sector. This sector provides essential qualifications for becoming a specialist or manager.
It is divided into:

  • Higher education institutions (HE) : In Switzerland, there are approximately 400 HE training programs covering eight main fields (economics, health, hospitality, technology, social work, visual arts, transport, and agriculture). Combining theoretical and practical teaching, these programs provide specialized knowledge in the field studied.
  • Federal certificates and diplomas (BF or DF) : placed under the responsibility of labor organizations, these exams are intend for individuals wishing to specialize in a field.
